In court: A man has been fined after giving police a false name when he was picked up driving without a licence and in an unregistered car.

Tzesian Spacho pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to driving while suspended, driving an unregistered vehicle and stating a false name when requested by police.

Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Chris Cole told the court Spacho was 20 years old when he was stopped by police in west MacIsaac Rd in Mooroopna on March 21.

He told police at the time he had a valid driver’s licence from Greece but did not have it with him, Leading Sen Constable Cole said.

The court heard when asked his name, he gave police a false name and a Shepparton address.

A check on the VicRoads database, however, found his P2 probationary licence was suspended on November 18, 2020, for demerit points.

The registration on the Toyota LandCruiser he was driving was also suspended on February 19.

Spacho’s solicitor John McNamara told the court his client had arrived from Greece in 2019 and on this occasion he panicked because “he knew a criminal conviction would not be good on his visa”.

Spacho was fined $1500 and his driver’s licence was suspended for one month.

No conviction was recorded.
