Heading into their final season of under-18 football, both looked set to put themselves on the radar of AFL clubs.
But then COVID-19 struck.
The pandemic originally saw the NAB League season postponed just days out from round one, before a modified season was cancelled earlier this month.
It now leaves the duo and their Pioneer teammates facing an uncertain wait.
As other top age talents across Australia showcase their ability on a weekly basis, Victoria’s next AFL stars are in a holding pattern.
“It's been pretty disappointing with everything that has happened,” Treacy said.
“But I'll keep doing everything I can to improve my game away from the club. The biggest thing I want to focus on is getting stronger.
“I was looking forward to leading the side alongside Jack so it is a shame I won't be able to do that.
“You don't just miss being out on the ground, you also miss being together as a group.
“We put in a lot of work over pre-season and I thought we had put ourselves in a good position for a strong season.”
Evans said he was continuing to think positively despite the trying circumstances.
“It was disappointing to have the season called off especially when it was my top age season,” he said.
“Now I'm just going to try and stay as fit as possible, but at the same time you don't want to do anything silly.
“It would have been an honour to captain the Pioneers but hopefully I get a similar opportunity down the track.
“What's next is still up in the air but I want to play at the highest level I possibly can in 2021.”
Evans and Treacy did manage to play some football in 2020, turning out for Echuca in its only Goulburn Valley League under-18s game against Shepparton.
The pair also featured in the practice match with Yarrawonga a week earlier.
“It was good to be able to have a run around,” Treacy said.
“After everything that had gone on in the year it was nice to have a kick with my mates.”
Treacy remains a strong chance to be drafted at the end of the season, having spent time in the NAB AFL Academy - a side featuring the most talented players in the country.
He also spent time with Essendon towards the back end of 2019.
The AFL is yet to confirm the draft dates for the men's or women's competitions later this year.
