Jordan Souter has officially been announced as the Blues’ senior coach for the 2021 season.
First appointed in 2018, Souter has led a resurgence of the Blues, leading them to the 2019 grand final.
Souter said it was an easy call to make.
“We made the decision quite a while ago,” he said.
“There were a few things which had to be weighed up, we thought about it as a family. Once we decided it would work, I had no hesitation in agreeing to do it again.
“I love the footy club, I love the playing group, so getting this done was as simple as it comes.
“It is a huge advantage for building the club to make those decisions too. You can recruit with more confidence, you know all your systems and what the future looks like, so you can map out the way the club will look and that's huge for getting new faces in.
“You really establish what you are about as a football club.”
The club has also looked to change the way the playing group handles things during lockdown 2.0, with Souter saying there was a greater emphasis on support and looking after each other following the recent death of a teammate.
“During the first lockdown, we spoke through social media and the like, but we weren't able to stay as close as we would have liked.
“We've been through some difficult times as a club recently, a lot of people are going through tough times during lockdown, and it's really shown how important it is to take care of each other.”
The club announced the news on their Facebook page on Thursday, saying it was an easy decision.
“The club honestly couldn’t be happier with the resigning as we absolutely adore the way Jordan goes about his role both on and off the field,” the post said.
“As our members would know Jordan goes well above and beyond the roles that he is expected to do as a coach and there isn’t an aspect of volunteer work that he hasn’t put his hand up for around the club.
“He is a natural leader and has turned a very young and inexperienced side around within a matter of months.
“Whilst there hasn’t been any football this year ‘Cat’ has managed to heavily bolster the stock for the up and coming season in 2021 whilst also managing to maintain the vast majority of his playing list from 2019.”
The Blues have recently announced the signing of former VFL gun Nick Jamieson, Old Scotch VAFA utility Andrew Hummerston, as well as the return of former Blue Matthew Tyler from Girgarre.
