Moama Water Sports Club confirmed its decision on Saturday after Ski Racing Australia (SRA) announced it was postponing the start of the 2020-21 racing season until at least January,
Ski Racing Australia's decision means the season will now run from January to December.
Barrie Beehag organisers said they were disappointed competitors and spectators would not be able to enjoy the event in 2020.
“This COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all and we all need to follow the advice from our governments and health officials,” Moama Water Sports Club president Steve Shipp said.
“We are disappointed that the Barrie Beehag Ski Race will not be run in 2020, but we look forward to welcoming all to the 2021 Barrie Beehag Ski Race in November 2021.”
SRA chief executive Cam McConville said the sport's governing body was still hopeful of completing all 24 events on the calendar in the upcoming season.
“This is a decision that has not been taken lightly but the on-going uncertainties in Victoria and the border closures between Victoria, NSW and Queensland have made it extremely difficult for our event organisers to plan their races with any certainty at all,” he said.
“Without a doubt this has been an extremely difficult time for businesses and individuals as well as the various sporting codes and clubs.
“So, while we take a pause on the racing, we want you to stay ‘connected’ during the ‘down time'.
“The SRA board and committee members are also looking at how best to use this time and will be focusing on improvements to the rule book, looking at a number of suggested race improvements and at a number of key safety initiatives.
“We will also be working with the clubs so that we are all ready to re-start the sport in the new year in the best shape possible.”
The cancellation of the Beehag means the 2021 Southern 80 will be Moama Water Sport Club's first event of the new year.
The Southern 80 is currently scheduled to run from February 12 to 14.
