van Florestein to return as LG coach in 2021

Van Florestein said he was excited to return to the club.

“I got the news a while ago, so it was good to know early on that I would be coming back next year,” he said.

“It gives you an opportunity as a club to really start planning, looking at what you need to do differently and where you can improve as a club.

“We've started our recruiting for the new season. We will have some to announce as a club in coming weeks who will hopefully play a key role for the club to go with a really strong group of young players we already have.”

Earlier this year, van Florestein said the club's young guns were expected to take a major step in 2020.

He expects nothing will change with the time off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The break has been tough on guys like me who are over 30, but the young kids are raring to go,” van Florestein.

“They're energetic, they want to get out and train and play and that's a great sign for our footy club.

“Another pre-season under their belts against bigger bodies and time to develop before we return will be a great thing for them, so hopefully when they are back on the track they will be even better players.”

While the restart of football is still unclear, van Florestein said his group had been preparing as much as possible.

“The majority of our players are locals and as such are under far less strict restrictions,” he said.

“They've been able to run, still do their physical training and stay as fit as possible.

“I have full faith they will be in great condition when we eventually get back.

“It will just be a case of getting the footys out and getting a bit of touch and used to playing again.

“I'm really looking forward to getting back out there with them again.”
