The Echuca-Moama Little Athletics committee made the call to hold off on starting the season due to the current Victoria-NSW border closure issues.
Club president Stuart Addicott said the decision was based on a desire to have all athletes compete together.
“It's an unfortunate situation, but one we decided was for the best,” he said.
“The kids love the fact they get to compete across the border with their friends, but unfortunately they are in a position where they won't be able to do that for some time.
“We've decided the best action is to hold off starting the season until we can have everyone compete together.”
Addicott said there were a number of issues which arose from the club's position on the border.
“We are a Victorian-governed club which has a centre in NSW,” he said.
“With the border closure in place things become really difficult. You can't guarantee a lot of those who will need to be on hand to make sure everything can be done safely and smoothly will be able to make it across each week.”
But the message is clear from the club - they will be ready.
“We're keeping a close eye on the restrictions,” Addicott said.
“Once things change and we are allowed to have people regularly cross the border, we will immediately start work on getting the season up and running.
“We expect it will only take us a week or two to be able to start our come and try skills days and then get the season up and running.
“Like everyone else around the community, we are hoping things move quickly so we can get up and running as soon as possible.”
