Echuca young gun Kobyn James has been selected as a member of the 2020-21 Victorian under-17 male emerging talent performance squad.
The side was selected based off players’ form last season in club cricket, where James represents Echuca Cricket Club.
As well as playing in his under 16 side, James played four games of B grade, and played in close to half of Echuca's A grade games for the season.
It also takes into account youth premier League form, where James represented Northern Rivers, and his efforts at the National Championships.
James - along with BLU's Cody Thompson - played in Victoria's break through under 15 side which claimed victory at the National Championships last season.
Cricket Victoria’s Jarrad Loughman said the squad was an opportunity to develop the young talent of the state into the best possible players they can be, and said the players had adapted well to a new style of training in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Like all sports we’ve been challenged by the current environment but we’re pleased with the way the players have adapted, particularly while also managing school commitments,” he said.
“We’re working to ensure the players are given the opportunity to compete in a national championship style environment during the season and we’re hopeful we’ll be able to make that happen during the summer.”
Rochester young gun Waugh George and Bendigo United's Bradman Constable - both of whom were teammates of James’ in Northern Rivers representative cricket - will also be members of the squad.
