On Friday, the Cats announced the signing of four-time Kyabram premiership defender Tom Holman for the 2021 season.
Holman, a former Goulburn Valley interleague representative, won’t be a stranger when he attends the club’s first session of pre-season either.
He is a cousin of players Adam and James McPhee, while his father Peter played for both Bamawm and Lockington before the two clubs merged.
Senior coach Brodie Collins said he was excited to add Holman to his playing list.
“It’s always nice when you can add a player of Tom’s quality to your team,” he said.
“He just wanted to come and have a kick with his cousins which is an added bonus for us.
“We value ourselves as a strong family club and a close-knit playing group so we love when we can keep building on that.
“Tom’s footballing CV speaks for itself and just on paper you can see he is going to establish himself as a strong player in the competition.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what he brings to the club.”
Having played on some of the best forwards in the GVL, you can expect to see Holman line-up on leading goalkickers in the HDFNL.
And with Rhys Woodland also able to play in a key defensive post, coach Collins is excited by their potential partnership.
“Key defenders are crucial to the make-up of any side,” Collins said.
“Having both Rhys and Tom will allow us to be flexible depending on who we are playing every week.
“Then there is the opportunity to change opponents in game if things are going our way.
“I think their partnership is something for the entire club to get excited about.”
