Instead he took the opportunity to speak to a young Bamawm-Lockington United side which is still taking its first steps in senior competition.
The experience between the two sides was reflected on the scorecard as Echuca amassed 290 with three players reaching a half-century.
Echuca then dismissed BLU for 31.
But this game wasn’t about who won, it was about an experience for all.
“It has been a courageous decision for BLU to take the step into A grade,” Varcoe said.
“A lot of their team were only playing in the youth girls competition. Despite what the scoreboard might say they should continue to take away a lot of positives.
“They’ve got a really good coach in Greg Pearse who has a great knowledge of the game and he will only help them become a better team.
“If they stick together for a few years there’s no doubt they’ll be very good. We just need to look at ourselves as a team and see how far we’ve come since the competition was formed.”
Varcoe said he was pleased with the way his players handled themselves on the day.
“It was good to see the girls go out their and play cricket,” he said.
“A few of them were disappointed with how they played last week, even though we won the game, and wanted to show a response.
“Hopefully we can now keep moving forward.”
In other matches, Leitchville-Gunbower got the better of Kyabram Fire Brigade while Beechworth was too good for Shepparton United.
