The club has been drawn to play in the FFA Cup for the first time, a competition which gives amateur sides the chance to play against A-League teams.
Although, the Border Raiders would have to get through several games before such an opportunity as the professional outfits do not enter the knockout tournament until the round of 32.
The Raiders’ first task will be pitted against the Melbourne Lions, which plays in Football Victoria’s State League 5 North.
Club president Pat Hicks said he was looking forward to seeing the Border Raiders embark on a new adventure.
“We've been looking to expand our horizons beyond our normal Bendigo Amateur Soccer League (BASL) commitments,” he said.
“The FFA Cup is growing in popularity every year so we thought it would be a great opportunity for our team.
“This game will be a great way to launch the return to sport.”
Given the Lions are based almost three hours away, Hicks admits he doesn't know too much about the opposition.
“One thing we do know is that they're a very strong community club similar to ourselves,” he said.
“I'm expecting they'll bring up a strong squad which will be a good challenge for our group.
“We will probably put out a young team so it will be a good way for us to test ourselves before our season starts.”
Three other BASL teams will compete in the tournament this season.
In the first round, Shepparton South has been drawn against Mildura City, Spring Gully will face Barwon and Tatura have been given a free pass into the second round due to a bye.
