On Saturday, the ladder leader was able to sneak past Tongala by just five shots after winning two out of three rinks.
The rinks skipped by Brad Campbell and Kevin Brennan won their respective match-ups by eight and seven shots respectively to help set up the victory.
Although there were some nervous moments for the home team as the Apollo Birch-skipped side went down by 10 shots to Brad Tinning’s rink.
The loss was a blow for Tongala which still sits outside the competition’s top four with just two rounds remaining in the home-and-away season.
In other matches, Echuca was able to create a gap between itself and Mathoura in third and fourth position respectively after coming up with a narrow four-shot win.
Mathew Liverton’s rink which included Jim Ferrier, Trevor Lidell and Matt Brighton was the best performed for Echuca winning by eight shots.
Rochester put a massive dent in Rich River’s hopes of winning the minor premiership after prevailing in their respective match by five shots.
Meanwhile, division two winners included Moama, Mathoura and Rich River.
Divisions three and four will play their final games of the home-and-away season this coming Saturday, February 13.
Mid-week pennant
THE action is heating up in the mid-week competition with sectional play starting on Friday, February 5.
Teams have now been spilt into two divisions with the top tier including five teams and the second involving six.
Moama Red underlined its status as the team to beat in division one as it came out on top against second place Mathoura Red by 34 shots.
Meanwhile in the other match, Moama Green defeated Echuca White by four shots.
The winner of the top division will qualify for the regional finals.
Mathoura Blue, Rich River and Tongala all won in division two.
