With the Tatura Lawn Tennis Club’s Labour Day tournament attracting players from both regional and metropolitan areas, it was Josh Bavich and Leanne More who scooped the top of the pool, laying claim to the men’s and women’s open singles titles respectively.
In his second year making it to the final, 17-year-old Bavich once again found himself on the opposite side of the net to Greg Hassett, who took out last year’s honours.
In what was a thrilling rematch, Bavich went one better this year, beating Hassett 10-7.
Bavich’s tennis partner, Leanne More, also finished the weekend at the top, winning her own final against Amanda Hassett, 8-3.
In calm conditions, More said the round-robin-style competition was a perfect entrée to the Rich River Rebels’ finals assault beginning this Saturday.
“It was pretty good, I had just gone to get in some practice ahead of our finals this weekend,” More said.
“The courts are pretty good there, it’s nice to play in Tatura and support a local tournament.”
The pair will now prepare to play in the GM1 semi-finals on Saturday against Numurkah Warriors.
