The Rich River Croquet Club’s six-day Anzac Classic is an annual Association Croquet event run by the club since 2006.
The event, which debuted in 2006, was cancelled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but this year it is back, bigger and better than ever.
The classic is run in four divisions based on handicaps.
Entrants in event one have handicaps ranging from -3 to 3.5.
This event has attracted some of the best croquet players in Australia, including the world's best in number one ranked Robert Fletcher of Ballarat Alexandra Croquet Club.
Robert’s handicap of -3 makes him the top seeded player in the classic, followed by his brother Malcolm Fletcher with a handicap of -2.
A total of 16 players will be playing in event one on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday May 2, starting at 9am.
All of these players are highly placed in the Australian rankings and represent clubs from all around Victoria as well as South Australia and NSW.
Event two will be contested on Monday, May 3 and Tuesday, May 4 by eight players with handicaps ranging from four to nine.
Again there will be representatives from clubs in Victoria, South Australia and NSW.
Players with handicaps from 10 to 14 and 18 to 20 will compete in events three and four, both to be played on Wednesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 6.
Spectators are welcome to attend and can be assured of seeing association croquet played at its best, particularly on Saturday and Sunday in event one.
