And with a pretty big list to choose from, the EMUs were stacked with talent.
With a fierce rivalry between the two clubs, this meeting on the fixture has developed into somewhat of a local derby clash.
The EMUs were fired up from the opening bounce, with Duane Kelly getting the first hit-out down to centerman James Walsh, who quickly moved the ball forward with a kick into the forward 50.
The ball didn’t spend long down there as after another contest and ball-up, Troy Ramsay started his first game of the season perfectly when he roved the pack and snapped truly for the opening goal.
Once back in the middle, the ball quickly found its way back to the EMUs forward line via some excellent inside work from Ash Mozza to get the ball out to winger Michael O’Connor, who hit key forward Garner Smith lace-out.
Smith made no mistake and slotted the second of the day.
From then on the contest was tight, with both teams moving the ball from end-to-end well.
The EMUs held the upper hand, with eventual best-on-ground player Wayne Muschialli sweeping countless Giants attacks from the backline with precision kicking.
Key defenders Justin Voss, Pete Spencer and Olivier Oranje provided an almost impenetrable wall in the last line of defence.
By half-time the EMUs had maintained a scoreboard advantage, leading by three goals, with Ashley Smidge and Dave Chapman lively in applying pressure in their forward line.
Aaron Prewett and Jared Johnson were also getting plenty of touches across half-back.
After the break, coach Lucas Walker sent star midfielder Chris Hagan - who was returning from injury and sat the first half out - onto the ball and, in tandem with captain Damien Hammond, controlled the centre bounces and clearances around the ground.
This dominance led to more forward entries, with help from Paul Lavars across the half-forward line and great tap work from Kelly and Adam Richter, which resulted in goals to Daryl Coutts, John Beach, Lyndon Nevill and another to Smith.
By the last change, the EMUs had built a fairly comfortable five-goal lead.
The Giants staged a mini-comeback to begin the last, with a couple of quick goals to get back to a three-goal difference.
However, after another entry into the Giants’ forward 50 a strong defensive pack mark from David Keillor stopped any chance of GV cutting the lead back to 11 points.
The ball was quickly moved forward with a quick pass to Troy Arlow who, after another impressive showing all day, took the ball down the outside wing and passed it onto the chest of Francis O’Brien. He made no mistake with the kick to put the result all but beyond doubt.
To add icing on the cake, tall-forward Clint Jurey marked the ball 30m out from goal directly in front seconds before the final siren, and kicked truly to seal a 23-point win the EMUs.
Echuca-Moama Masters’ next game will be away against the Samaria Suns next Saturday and they will return home to face the Murray Crays a fortnight later.
