Event organiser Tony Bennett said he was pleased with early registration numbers of over 1,800 for the largest freshwater fishing competition in Australia.
“Registrations are going along nicely with walk-up entries, we should see around 2,300 entries in total, maybe a little better than last year’s event providing the weather is OK,” Tony said.
“Merv Hughes will once again be here along with two of the biggest names in Cod fishing, Thomas ‘The Captain’ Pinter and Lubin Pfeifer who will be guest speaking with host Stephen Booth on Friday evening.”
Tony said the “Fishing and Outdoors Expo” held at the competition home base on the Mulwala Football Club oval will be significantly larger with something to look at for everybody who has an interest in fishing.
“It’s open to the public, and there will also be plenty of activities, including the popular Yamaha bikes for the kids,” Tony said.
“There will be a lucky door prize for entries, and for the kids, their entries will receive a lure for their lucky door entry prize.
Tony said the Australian Pro Casting Championships will also return, where several of Australia’s best tournament casters will go head-to-head against each other to take home the title.
Hobie has also come on board again as a major sponsor in the canoe and kayak fishing section. This section now carries the title of “Hobie – Australian Canoe and Kayak Cod Fishing Champion”.
