The Picola and District Football Netball League held its first round of finals over the weekend, with Picola United and Mathoura looking to make an impact across the grades.

This week’s elimination finals saw the fifth take on eighth and the sixth take on seventh in sudden-death match-ups. Qualifying finals between first and fourth, and second and third will take place next weekend.
In the reserves Picola United kept its season alive, defeating Katunga 9.10 (64) to 2.3 (15) at Katandra Recreation Reserve.
The Blues won all four quarters, making their presence felt throughout the contest, and will now have a week off as they await their opponents, the loser of the qualifying final between Strathmerton and Waaia.
Dylan Cunningham starred for Picola, kicking six goals, while Jack Hutchins contributed the other three.
In the under-17s the Blues season was ended by Tungamah, 18.15 (123) to 9.2 (56), while in the under-14s the Blues finished fourth and look ahead to a qualifying final against Berrigan on Saturday.
In netball, Mathoura’s fifth-placed B-grade side was favoured heading into a match-up with eighth-placed Tocumwal, but was defeated by the Bloods 32-39, ending the Cutters season.
In C-grade, the seventh-placed Cutters had more success, overcoming sixth-seed Strathmerton 41-34 and booking a meeting with the loser of Katunga and Waaia in two weekends time.
In C-reserve, Picola United was eliminated by Katunga, going down 20-37.
In under-15s, the Blues finished fourth and will have a double chance, first battling undefeated Deni Rovers next weekend in a qualifying final.
In under-13s, seventh-placed Mathoura prevailed 20-17 over Katandra, earning a meeting with either Tocumwal or Tungamah in two weekends time.
