When the trophy was designed for the inaugural staging of the club challenge between Kyabram’s two golf clubs, Valley View and Parkland, there really was only one choice — a boomerang.
The obvious significance of the combatants always wanting the trophy to come back to them was not missed when it was unveiled for the first time to the 52 participants in Sunday’s event — at Valley View.
It was 1980 that the first Valley View v Parkland event was staged, but the event went into recess after its 2011 staging.
The response to Sunday’s event has assured it has a healthy future 31 Valley View players and 21 from Parkland involved.
Valley View, not surprisingly, won the event on its home course.
Valley View captain Gavon Armstrong said both clubs had made a commitment to the return match at the same time next year — at the Parkland par three course.
“There was a great feeling between the two clubs. It hasn’t been held for so long, so everyone was very enthusiastic,” he said.
