It was a valiant effort from the Eagles, who hosted the reigning premier and looked right in the contest for the majority of the game.
“We showed today what we are capable of against the top team in Deni,” Eagles co-coach Kate Donehue said.
“Our girls keep going from strength to strength each week, and we are super proud of how they are playing.
“Today was a team effort. Em (Emily Cossar) and Jess (Davidson) combined well in the mid court. We welcomed back Elle Molluso and she stood tall in defence, assisted well by Tessa (Bruni), Remy (Day) and Amy (Sherlock).
“Jordy (Hay) and Kate (Pearson) are getting used to each other and combining well.”
The six-goal loss is an encouraging sign for Echuca United, with the side a relatively fresh combination on court as opposed to the experienced campaigners in the Rams.
“Deni showed in the last quarter their composure and experience to win the game,” Donehue said.
“We are a new group and it was great to see us take it to a team that has been playing together for a while.
“We are looking forward to a few weeks off before we take on Mulwala in another tough game.”
The Eagles remain well placed on the ladder heading into a double bye despite consecutive losses, thanks to the seven consecutive wins they put together from round four to round 10.
One of three teams on seven wins, United has slid to sixth spot, behind Rumbalara and Moama, although it maintains a one-game gap to Congupna in seventh.
