Cammarata soars to pigeon club victory

Kyabram Racing Pigeon Club continued its 2024 season on Saturday with the Gunbar No.2 event.

The event saw trainers once again release birds from Gunbar, north-east of Hay, with participating pigeons making the 250km-plus journey back to their home lofts.

Seven trainers participated in this week’s event, with a total of 120 birds taking part.

The win on the day went to Lancaster’s Joe Cammarata, whose birds completed the journey in a brisk 3:25:03, representing a velocity of 1231.98 metres per minute.

Kyabram’s John Carroll and Phillip King found their way onto the podium with velocities of 1217.18 and 1143.51 respectively.

Jim Arthur (1102.77) took out fourth place, while Gary Rayner (795.59), Peter White (790.86) and Ian Trench (591.63) rounded out the field.

The club’s next race is scheduled for this Saturday, August 31, and will be over an even further distance, with the start line set just south of Hillston.
