Cyclists obviously fancy themselves better on the bike, while triathletes make a good argument in a race against the clock, raising a light-hearted debate about which discipline is the quickest.
Echuca Moama Cycling Club and Echuca Moama Triathlon Club decided the best way to determine who was faster was, logically, a time trial.
On Saturday, 22 competitors from across both clubs raced individually across 10km, with the winner earning bragging rights for their respective club.
EMCC set out with a point to prove, having lost the inaugural title last year when EMTC member Matt Sullivan pipped young gun Levi Hone by one second.
Those two names would record the two quickest times again this year, but there would be no denying Hone or EMCC the title.
The rising cycling star tore up the course to record a barnstorming time of 13 minutes and 28 seconds, averaging a massive 44.55km/h.
It would be over a minute quicker than Sullivan could manage this year, with the triathlete rolling across the line after 14 minutes and 38 seconds had elapsed.
The win for EMCC squares the ledger between the local clubs at one win each.
In B-grade, Gordon Durnan recorded the fastest time of 14 minutes and 52 seconds, while Sarah Mulkearns was the first female across the line in 16 minutes and 40 seconds.
Darren McKemmish took the C-grade honours in 16 minutes and 26 seconds, closely followed by Claire Goodman in 16 minutes and 48 seconds.
John Jenkins’ time of 17 minutes and 17 seconds was the fastest in D-grade, while Georgie Jenkins’ effort of 17 minutes and 28 seconds saw her across the line as the first female.
EMCC will return to the road with a scratch race in a fortnight’s time, while the biggest race of the Winter Road Series, the Noel Smith Memorial, is just over a month away.
