The duo fought at Rebellion Muay Thai’s latest event, held at Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington on Saturday night, wrapping up a huge year.
Jack kept his undefeated start to his professional career rolling with a win against his opponent Ben Killian, while his older brother Jack lost to Sam Gardiner.
Taking on a skilled opponent in Killian, Daniel showcased his class with a dominant performance that saw him win by unanimous decision.
Daniel’s high fight IQ was clearly evident throughout the bout, and he was well on top after each round.
It was a great effort from the youngster, who was taking part in his second fight after turning pro earlier this season and now has a 2-0 win-loss record.
Later in the night it was Jack’s turn to step into the ring, but he couldn’t quite complete the double dose of wins for the brothers.
Jack fought well in his bout against Gardiner, putting in a strong, smart performance. But as hard as Jack battled, his opponent Gardiner just kept bouncing back.
On another night Jack may have been deemed the victor, but on Saturday it was instead Gardiner who won in a tight split decision.
The fights wrap up what has been a big year for the Matthews brothers.
From Kyabram, the pair train at Wickham’s Martial Arts Centre in Echuca.
Jack made his pro debut in 2021, and emerged as one of the top young talents this year.
Daniel followed in his brother’s footsteps, making his debut and picking up wins in his first two fights.
After some time off, the two will return to the ring for their first fights of 2023 early next year.
