The Echuca Clay Target Club hosted the Victorian ISSF State Championships across the weekend, with more than 150 of the best shooters in the country - including multiple past and future Olympians - taking to the traps.
Echuca Clay Target Club president Nicholas Dean said the event could not have gone better.
"We had a fantastic weekend,” he said.
"It well and truly exceeded the expectations we had going into the event, and you can't ask for anything more than that.
"We had the best shooters in Australia. Echuca really turned on the weather for them, and all the feedback we have received so far in relation to the event is about how happy those competitors were to be a part of it."
Having been a regular host of major events in previous years, Dean said the return of top flight shooting to the club was welcomed.
"It's really great to have the best shooters and the best events back at Echuca,” he said.
"And it's hopefully just the start. We have the plans in place for future events.
"We have the universal trench titles coming up in a fortnights time, then in mid-June we have the Commonwealth down the line titles coming through.
"That made this weekend even more important.
"Having two more major events coming up in the next few weeks and months, it gives you an opportunity to make sure you have everything right in terms of how the club runs.
"We take a lot of pride in how we do things here and the fact we are able to attract major events, so getting back and hosting again is something we have really been looking forward to."
While no major wins were claimed by local shooters, Dean said the representation from the town was strong.
"It's always good to have a strong local team,” he said.
"They performed well and we were pretty happy with what our locals were able to achieve at the event."
