Held Saturday, November 6, the Victorian Junior Road Championship kicked off with a road race, with Echuca duo Levi Hone and Max Trewhella taking part in the 63km 17-and-under edition.
Hone kept pace with the pack until the final climb on the last lap, finishing seventh in the 31-rider field. Trewhella, in his first open category event of the season, raced to the line in 14th place.
Lenny Griffiths attempted to defy a strong field of riders in the 15-and-under category, ending the 35km-race in 11th spot.
Leading his eight rivals heading into the final 300m, a mechanical issue robbed George Griffiths of a win in the 13-and-under category.
Quick thinking and running repairs by the young rider salvaged a fifth-place finish.
With the road races concluded, attention turned to the individual time trial to round out the event.
Hone capped off a solid weekend with a ninth-place finish in his 15km time trial, with a time of 22 minutes 24 seconds — one minute and 49 seconds behind the winner.
Trewhella raced out of the blocks over the 15km ITT, and reached the line with a time of 23 min 27 sec, finishing three minutes behind the winner.
Lenny Griffiths finished with a time of 16.53, while George put the frustration of the road race behind him, racing away to a third-place finish in the ITT with a time of 14.14 over 8km.
With the event concluded and the points tallied, the final standings reflected a strong season for the EMCC cyclists.
In the final Junior 17A standings, Hone sat sixth with 119 points in the 37-rider category, despite battling a broken collar-bone earlier in the year.
Two second-place finishes in his category at Glenrowan was enough for Trewhella to claim an overall series win in the 2021 Junior 17B standings, finishing atop the table with 338 points.
Lenny Griffiths finished the Junior 15A in 13th with 54 points, and George concluded his Junior 13 season in 12th with 68 points.
