Echuca
Thursday men’s pairs was won by Ivan Hicks and Trevor Liddell with Paul Leach and Daryl La Velle as runners-up. The jackpot was won by Ian Page and Chris Campbell.
On Saturday, Chrissie Weller, Mayor of Shire of Campaspe was warmly welcomed by President Trevor Rickard and she spoke of the importance of community.
She rolled the first bowl of the new season and then some members played a brief game. A delightful afternoon tea followed and members chatted and caught up.
On Monday, a small but enthusiastic group of bowlers played: Paul Leach and Mike Redapple were runners-up, while the winners were Bill Brander and Lorraine Marsden.
Tuesday morning was the first round of the five-a-side, sponsored by the Nook. Winners were Thistles: Phillip Thorn, Kristy Gillingham, John Battye, Neil Dovaston and Linda Ormando.
The singles games were all close. Phillip Thorn beat Ivan Hicks by one shot, Eddie Blampied also won by one shot over Craig Beck, and Trevor Liddell and John Dinsdale played a draw. Can’t get much closer than that.
Weekend pennant practice starts on Friday as the pennant season is fast approaching. The list is up if you have any dates that you are unavailable. Please help the selectors by keeping them informed.

Sunday Social Bowls
Bowls, and if you like, move on to lunch and music in the club. Bowls starts at 10.30am. List on display at the Bowls Office for names.

Pennant is fast approaching, and a lot is happening throughout the area, enjoy the bowls and see you on the Greens.

Monday, September 5
18 players played three games of nine ends. The winners of 40 points were Faye Leahy (skip), Mary Kypers (third) and Sue Undewood (lead).
The runners-up with 35 points were Joan Heales (skip), Julie Van-Lee (third) and Shirley McKinnon (lead).
Consolation prizes went to Pam Kerr, Colin Hicks and Janine Wolfe.
Campaspe Valley 60 & Over
The Campaspe Valley & District 60 & Over bowls group held their opening day at Mathoura Bowls Club on Wednesday, August 31.
The president Stan Limbrick welcomed the bowlers to the start of the season of 60 & Over – 26 teams, that’s 104 players competing for a chook.
Two teams had won three games then rolled off to within the yard stick.
The team that came second were from Rich River and had three bowls within the yard stick. They were John Langley (lead), George Clarence (second), Barry Cox (third) and Greame Moffet was their skipper.
A team from Echuca was the winners on the day, with four bowls within the yard stick.
The team were Kevin McAsey (lead), John Hollowood (second), Eddie Blampied (third) and Ron Payne was their skipper.
Members of both teams received a chook each.
On Wednesday, September 7, 60 & Over bowls is at Echuca Bowls Club with an 11am start.

Rochester
Club opening was on Friday, September 2.
Happy Father’s Day to all the grandfathers and great-grandfathers at the club!
A midweek pennant practice match at Rochester between White Hills and Rochester will be played on Tuesday, September 13 at 10am at Rochester.
Lunch provided of soup and sandwiches. Green fees of $5 ea. There will be a raffle, list in the foyer.
A weekend pennant practise match at Rochester between White Hills is being planned for Saturday, October 8 depending on numbers. List in the foyer.
Carpet Bowls
We had a great final night with plenty of members enjoying supper. Thanks Mal for bringing Noel Sexton.
August 29 results winners this week were Yvonne Smolenaars, Judy Murray, John Coghill and Anton Gusak.
Anton had two resting touchers with one to Janice, Wakka, Kathy, Mal and Betty.
Getting a prize for trying hard were Peter Holzer, Alan Williams, Janice Tamburini and Noel Sexton.
Pairs results: Thursday, September 1
There were four lots of two game winners. They were L. & D. Milgate only getting two in the yardstick as did A. Crilly & J. Boyd.
M. Maccraild & B. Smolenaars got three in the yardstick as did G. Houlihan & M. Ellis.
G. Houlihan & M. Ellis won the closest bowl by a couple of centimetres so Bert & Mal were second.
This week on Thursday, September 8 will be pairs again.
Names in by 11am Wednesday with a 1pm start.

Weekly coaching classes of lawn bowls commenced on Thursday, August 4 at 10 am and continues.
