That won’t be the only attraction, however, as the $20,000 Arch Electrical Group Echuca Trotters Cup is also set to put on a fine display at Echuca Harness Racing Club.
There is stiff competition for the Echuca Pacing Cup, with the likes of Idyllic, trained by Emma Stewart, and Tangoingwithsierra, trained by Craig Hoban, among the favourites, with both starting from the second row.
The predicted strong crowd can expect some thrilling wheel-to-wheel action on track, according to Echuca Harness Racing Club secretary Hope Gamble.
“We’ve got really good fields for both of those cups, and we’re expecting some really exciting racing,” she said.
“We hope for a very good crowd, we hope for about 2000 people.”
Aside from the on-track action, Gamble said there was plenty of other entertainment for punters to enjoy.
“We’ve got quite a bit of entertainment planned,” she said.
“We’ve got a live DJ, he will be on course, we’re running a punters club, a professional tipster is going to pick them, so we’re hopeful that it’ll be very rewarding for people.”
With food options including a country barbecue and a variety of other hot food, there is sure to be an option for everyone.
It promises to be a fun family night out, Gamble said, with plenty of activities on offer for kids, as well as free entry for those aged 15 and under.
“We’ve got a jumping castle, they’ll be here starting at six o’clock,” she said.
“They’re always good, very popular, and this meeting we’ve got the pony trots putting on a display, the kids with their beloved ponies, and there will be presentations for that.”
While the main event will be the Echuca Pacing Cup, the Tiffany Murray Memorial Pace is a race that club views fondly, Gamble said.
“Tiffany was a lady driver frequently here and she died too soon, and she’s remembered each year,” she said.
“There’s a trophy donated by a local gentleman for the lady drivers, because it’s a lady driver’s race, and Tiffany Murray’s family donate a rug each year. It’s a pretty popular race, it’s special to us.”
Gates open at 5pm, with the first race getting under way at 5:59pm. Adult tickets cost $10, and can be purchased at www.stickytickets.com.au/2F82A
