The Murray Bombers were one of 14 successful community organisations and individuals successful in securing grants as part of the 2021-2022 Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program.
Victorian Community Sport Minister Ros Spence said the program was aimed at creating healthier and more united communities.
“Investing in Aboriginal organisations, clubs, participants and volunteers provides a range of opportunities and breaks down the barriers to participation,” Ms Spence said.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister Gabrielle Williams said sport was a crucial part of every Victorian’s life.
“For every Aboriginal Victorian who wants to get involved on the pitch or on the court, this program is about making that happen,” she said.
Since it began in 2020, the program has provided 128 grants totalling more than $138,000 to First Nations community organisations, clubs and individuals across the state.
Up to $1500 is available for teams to participate in statewide or national carnivals, up to $1000 for team uniforms and club sporting equipment and $750 for travel and accommodation expenses.
The next round of funding will open soon.
