Tocumwal Public School and Finley Public School have progressed to the next round of the PSSA Cricket Brian Taber Shield Knockout competition of regional schools, after defeats of Barooga and Berrigan respectively.

Toc now progress to play Corowa Public School, who scored 6/75 to defeat Howlong Public School’s total of 67.
Finley Public School have also progressed to play Deniliquin North Public School, who scored 59 runs chasing down Deniliquin South Public School’s total of 51 all out on Monday last week.
The winners of each pending match will then play each other in the third round, with the winner progressing to the regional semi-finals later this year.
All first round games were played last week.
On Thursday, Tocumwal Public School travelled to play Barooga Public School.
In a spirited display of skill and teamwork, it was a thrilling match filled with sportsmanship and competitive energy.
Tocumwal’s bowlers set the tone early, with Sam Borg (1 wicket), Joel Harrison (2 wickets), and Max White (1 wicket) leading a disciplined attack that kept Barooga’s batters under pressure.
After losing two early wickets, Barooga’s Kyle Dunn and Seth Cox steadied the innings with smart shot selection and quick running between wickets.
Seth (3 runs) provided strong support, holding up his end against some effective bowling.
Kyle’s innings gained momentum, as he found gaps and sent boundaries racing to the fence.
As the innings neared its close, Barooga’s batters turned up the heat, aggressively looking for runs, resulting in a few late wickets.
Kyle anchored the innings superbly, retiring on 31 not out.
When it was Tocumwal’s turn to bat, Joel Harrison shone with a superb innings, retiring on 26 runs not out.
Barooga’s bowlers then took on the challenge of keeping Tocumwal’s run chase in check.
Lane and Kyle opened the attack but faced strong resistance from the openers.
Kyle (2 wickets) managed an early breakthrough, slowing the momentum.
Barooga’s change bowlers stepped up, landing the ball in great areas.
Harley Ranken (1 wicket) bowled with impressive pace and took a wicket, while Sam Grech’s golden arm struck (1 wicket), prising out a pivotal wicket.
The Barooga team rallied for a final push, showing true determination and team spirit.
However, Tocumwal’s Max White and Ross Grieves, both Year four students, showed great promise, while Brett Bird and Ashton ‘Birthday Boy’ Taylor remained unbeaten to guide the team to victory.
Final scores after the 20 over contest saw Barooga finish on 5/56 while Tocumwal proved too strong as they finished with 5/70 to claim a five wicket victory for Tocumwal Public School.
In the other local bracket match on Friday, Berrigan Public School was on the road to Finley Public School.
Finley’s cricketers had a great win, with the score of 3/104 too much for Berrigan Public School to chase. Berrigan finished on 7/83.
It was a whole team effort that got Finley Public School over the line.
The next round of matches must be played before May 9.
