Kyabram Fire Brigade will look to maintain its hot start to the season with a second victory in as many weeks against Nondies-Cohuna who will want to avoid starting 0-2.

The Flames came out of the gate hot with a blistering win over Tongala in round one, chasing down Tonny’s first innings total of 109 in less than 20 overs.
Captain Robert Salter, Tom Owen and Wil Harrison all claimed a pair of wickets each against Tongala and seem to have developed an effective three-pronged bowling attack.
However, Salter claimed his two wickets while conceding only four runs from nine overs, five of which were maidens at an economy of 0.44.
First drop Paul Newman was the head of Fire Brigade’s fierce batting display, blasting 53 runs unbeaten, while Cohan Hooper was the next highest scorer with 13.
Meanwhile, in its match with Rochester, Nondies-Cohuna’s Geoff Williams (38) and Jacob Hetherington (23) made good starts and Xavier Wishart and Tom Powell remained unbeaten on 34 and 15 respectively.
They mustered 6/160 at the end of their innings and may have benefited from being more aggressive with the bat as Rochester chased them down in 27 overs with five wickets in hand.
Zeb Ellwood proved useful with ball in hand for Nondies-Cohuna, taking 2/39 from seven overs while Aiden Konopka had a day out in the field, taking a pair of catches.
The match-up between Fire Brigade and Nondies-Cohuna should make for an interesting game as the former seems to like playing aggressively, which suits the one-day format, while the latter looks more adept at building an innings and playing the long game.
It’ll be a battle of philosophies between the two sides with Nondies-Cohuna having the added advantage of playing at home.
The addition of returning coach Jon Varcoe returning to helm the Flames seemed to have paid off, at least to begin the season, and will be interesting to see how much of an impact it has on Fire Birgade’s play throughout the season.
The first ball is scheduled for noon on Saturday, October 12.
