Trainer Tayne Foster and jockey Rose Hammond teamed up to cause a boilover when Enamour won the $37,500 Apiam Animal Health Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m) at Bendigo on Thursday.
Enamour ($26) knocked plenty out of the quaddie as she held off Field Of Praise to score by three-quarters-of-a-length, with Little Miss Grace in third a further 1¾ lengths adrift.
Foster, who prepares a boutique team of runners at Echuca, was rapt with the six-year-old mare’s performance.
“She’s only a 58 horse, but she was very fresh,” she said.
“Rosie knows how to ride her, send her forward.
“I thought she could sneak into a place, but a win was a surprise.”
Enamour, a daughter of Charm Spirit, took her career record to five wins from 45 starts and lifted her earnings to $136,100.
She started her career in Sydney under John O’Shea and enjoyed a stint with Tracey Bartley before arriving in the Foster stable in late 2021.
“I bought her from NSW and through the time I’ve had her, she’s been plagued with bad gates. She’s always put in and been super honest,” Foster said.
“She is what she is. She needs to draw a gate, needs a wet track and to go forward.”
Hammond was also impressed with Enamour, which delivered the 18th winner of her emerging career.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect and she usually goes better over 1400m,” she said.
“The trip today suited her well. She’s a tough, honest thing who just keeps going.
“She definitely did well to get the win.”
