The junior Goulburn Valley Suns were back in action over the weekend, with some pleasing individual and team performances against stiff NPL competition.

The Suns’ under-21 outfit picked up a resounding 5-1 victory on the road against Werribee City in round two, recovering well from a 4-1 defeat to Manningham United Blues in the season opener.

A roaring start saw the Suns carry a 3-1 lead into half-time, the young side refusing to take its foot off the gas in the second half, bagging another two to seal a comprehensive 5-1 victory.

It was a very different scoreline for the under-18s who were on the wrong side of a 7-0 drubbing at the hands of a powerful Eastern Lions side.

The loss leaves the Suns in seventh, with four wins and as many losses after nine rounds.

The under-16s young guns enjoyed a dominant 3-0 win at McEwen Reserve over Eastern Lions to collect their third win of the season.

Laywi Niyonkuru wasted no time and found the back of the Lions’ net within six minutes, the Suns holding firm at the back to maintain their one-goal lead until Prabhjot Singh doubled their advantage in the 56th minute.

Dante Mori bagged the Suns’ third in the 64th to ensure the game was out of the visitors’ reach.

A difficult season for the under-14s continued after they went down 7-0 to a goal-happy Eastern Lions.
