The NPL East Vic boys under-18s was the most thrilling contest of the day, with a late goal to FC Bulleen Lions resulting in a heartbreaking 3-3 draw for the Suns.
It was goal-for-goal at McEwen Reserve, Shepparton, with Hassan Alhilfi opening the scoring for the home side before Xavier Fattore equalised for Bulleen.
Callum Horsman then put the Suns ahead, yet Bulleen once again found a leveller, with Fattore scoring another just after half-time.
Ethan Scipione’s 78th minute strike put the home team 3-2 up with 12 minutes to go, however, a last-minute Bulleen penalty, scored by Daniel Hudson, meant both sides shared the points as the final whistle blew.
In the under-14s it was a tough day out for the Suns, with Bulleen running out an 8-0 victor, while in the under-16s a big 14-0 loss was a difficult way to start the season.
All three sides will have a chance to pick up their first win of the season on Sunday, with the under-14s kicking off a day of action at 10am at McEwen Reserve.
These games will be against Ashburton United in what is sure to be an entertaining contest.
In other GV Suns news, former junior Garang Kuol came on in the 80th minute of the FFA Cup final on Saturday night.
Kuol, who plays for Central Coast Mariners, was part of a frantic end to the game where both sides hit the back of the net.
The final result was a 2-1 win to Melbourne Victory and, despite the result, this was an incredible achievement from the Suns product.
