Easter in Shepparton wouldn’t be complete without the thwack of racquet on ball emanating from the courts of the Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club.

The courts came alive at the weekend as hundreds descended for the 101st Easter Tournament, running from April 18-21.
One of the region’s premier sporting events, there was scarcely a quiet moment as players from across Victoria swung into action for the 2025 edition.
Despite a later Easter time slot and the loss of daylight saving, they still came in droves from far and wide, and the quality of play was well-received.
With 46 divisions to pick from, every ability and age bracket was largely catered for, and live performances from Sam and Sam and Nigel Parsons provided plenty of entertainment off the court.

“The weather treated us kindly and everyone had a great time on and off the court. The courts played beautifully,” SLTC president Kevin Hicks said.
“It was a later tournament we had so we didn’t have daylight saving so we probably had a few less matches than we would normally, but it was well run and well-received.”
A historic fourth title for Sam Thompson in the men’s singles and maiden win for Shiying Li in the women’s competition set a high bar, with both clashes attracting an intrigued gaggle of onlookers either awaiting their own game or drawn by
Olivia Quigley continued to acquit herself well towards the pointy end of the competition, and although it didn’t translate into a win in the singles, the doubles with partner Josephine New proved more fruitful, producing a strong win for the Shepparton duo.
