Only one match went ahead in the Goulburn Murray Cricket senior women’s competition at the weekend.
While Saturday’s scorching weather made life tough for the region’s cricketers, Sunday’s muggy and rain-soaked conditions made the sport unplayable.
All four of Sunday’s senior women’s matches were abandoned, with the only result from round seven being a clash between Nathalia and Kyabram.
The T20 match was held at Nathalia Showgrounds on Thursday evening, with Nathalia winning the toss and electing to bat.
The home side got off to a slow start with Kyabram’s opening bowlers Grace Hammond and Eliza Linehan restricting Nathalia’s batters early.
Hammond in particular was impressive as she finished the innings with figures of 0-6 from four overs.
Opening batter Evie Hawks top-scored for Nathalia, retiring not out on 18 runs from 30 deliveries, while first-drop batter Abby Favaro chipped in with a handy 15 off 12.
Hope Irvine (1-6 off three overs) finished with the Redbacks’ best bowling figures.
Nathalia finished the innings on 5-79.
Irvine continued her hot form into the second innings, blasting 40 runs (five boundaries and one six) before retiring not out.
Meanwhile, Hawks registered two run-outs for Nathalia.
Kyabram finished its innings on 2-94 to secure its first victory of the season.
