Facing off with Tatura on a batter-friendly Howley Oval pitch, the Eagles were simply too strong with bat and ball, running out 191-run victors.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the visitors lost captain Ben Clurey for six early, however, the side would soon settle.
The introduction of Jedd Wright in the third over had an immediate impact, with two boundaries setting the tone for how his and batting partner James Dawson’s innings would look.
Making his way to 106 off 105 balls, Wright struck 14 fours and four sixes on the way to a century, while Dawson struck 92 off 100 deliveries.
“It’s terrific,” Clurey said when asked about Wright’s performance.
“He’s a quality player on all fronts ― batting and bowling ― so it’s great to see him going well, it makes everyone else’s lives easier.”
While wickets would fall cheaply late in the innings for the visiting side, the total of 6-249 made Tatura’s job a tricky one.
Despite the pitch being run-friendly, a superb bowling display had the home side dismissed for 58.
Katandra’s Ray Ireland took his 200th wicket for the club in a spell of 5-24, while Wright added to his century by taking 3-3 off 3.3 overs.
“Our bowling effort was pretty good,” Clurey said.
“To keep them to 58 was terrific because it was a pretty good batting surface out there at Tat.
“To put in some really strong performances against some of the sides we’ve played so far this season has been good.
“It’s good to see the likes of Jedd, James and even Ray, who got five wickets, firing on all cylinders.”
Facing off against Waaia and Mooroopna before the Christmas break the Eagles will be hoping to carry their form into their next two games and Clurey said his side was looking forward to the challenge.
“That will certainly test us out, but we’ll just keep that positive feeling, have some fun and back ourselves in,” he said.
Katandra remains undefeated in fourth place on the ladder, while Tatura sits on the bottom, yet to secure a win.
