A showcase of Speedway Sedan competition previews the 2021/2022 SSA Australian Modified Sedan Championship to be held at Heartland Raceway Moama in March 2022.
Saturday night sees the return of the popular V8 Super Sedans, with a mix of Victorian and New South Welshmen meeting for the first time this season.
Featuring Alcohol Fuelled Chevrolets, Ford and even Dodge V8’s nestled in bespoke chassis of various designs, they provide fast and furious flame-belching action.
Local constructor Lucas Roberts — aboard his “Insane Chassis” Dodge — will have support from fellow Victorians Dave McKenzie (Insane/Dodge), Jamie Collins (Sweet/Chev) and Bendigo stalwart Lionel West (West/Chev), along with Daylesford’s Darren Giocometti, Ben Faulkhead, and rookie Brock Atkins of Hamilton.
NSW is represented by Goulburn father and son duo Paul and Kurt Kranitis (Insane/Chevs) and Tyson Moon (Sweet/Chev) making the long haul from Bega on the south coast to contest round one of the Victorian Super Sedan Series.
The Victorian Modified Promotions Association bring 26 Modified Sedans to Moama this Saturday night for round one of the VMPA Tritech Lubricants Modified Sedans Series.
Door-to-door, wheel-banging action is synonymous with “Mods,” and part of the reason Dave Roberts pursued the SSA Australian Modified Sedan Championship.
Current Australian Champion Kye Walters (Aust 1/Vic 2, AU Falcon) heads a quality field from across Victoria, and a lone ACT Competitor in Liam Murphy (ACT 75, VY Commodore).
Among the rookies in this year’s season are Ballarat racers Bella Rizzoli (B18, VS Commodore), Karen Ferguson (Lang 11, EA Falcon) and Darcy Wilson (B 5, FGX Falcon), along with Wangaratta’s Shane Roycroft (Wang 82, AU Falcon), Nathan Shortis (Wang 55, BF Falcon) and Goulburn Valley’s Benny Mannix (GV79, TE Cortina).
Unfortunately local lady racer Rachel Pratt (GV 94, AU Falcon) has been unable to complete a rebuild on her Rich River Dealers supported racecar in time for Saturday night.
However, Graham West in the ever popular Bgo 56, 1972 Torana will keep the interest of his long-time followers from the Bendigo Showgrounds Speedway days.
The Junior Sedan Promotional Association of Victoria presents round one of its Country Aggregate Series, consisting of “Top Stars” and “New Star” competitors.
Top Stars are essentially 12 to 17-year-old drivers with some degree of racing experience, whereas the New Stars are usually younger, less experienced competitors.
Geelong’s Blake Glynn (AV 8, Hyundai) and Fletcher Barron (AV 5, Hyundai), Mildura’s Carter Metcalf (Mda 10, Hyundai) and Will Shore (Mda 15, Mitsubishi Mirage), and Alexandra’s Bree Simpson (AX 10, Hyundai) and Seth Sloane (AX 93) will be joined by Jack Murphy (ACT 55, Hyundai) among the 20 nominations.
Competition gets under way at 6pm Saturday night — NSW Government COVID Vaccination requirements apply.
Heartland Raceway Moama has become a highlight on competitor calendars in recent years, with the ever-improving facility offering exciting, multi-laned racing.
