The Sunset Statues 2 event, originally scheduled for July 20, was rescheduled to July 22 due to poor weather conditions.
Seven trainers released a total of 138 birds from the same location as last week’s Sunset Statues 1 event, alongside the Cobb Highway between Deniliquin and Hay.
Birds departed at 11am sharp and raced their way back to their respective lofts.
King’s birds returned in a time of 1:47:20, travelling at the fastest average velocity of 1266.056 metres per minute.
Peter White, also of Kyabram, placed second in the event with a velocity of 1167.885, while last week’s winner, Lancaster’s Jim Arthur (1102.288) had to settle for third this time around.
Tongala’s John Biggin, Kyabram’s Gary Ratner, Merrigum’s David Hutchison and Lancaster’s Joe Cammarata rounded out the field.
After a second-place effort in round one, King is now atop the overall pointscore, leading Arthur by a single point.
