The 26-year-old has been a late call-up to represent the Victorian team in the Australian Country Cricket Championships after originally being named as an emergency.
The championships, to be staged over seven days, feature both men and women and begin in Newcastle on January 3.
The prodigious sporting talent last represented Victoria in cricket in 2013 when he captained the Victorian 13 and Under side in the national titles in Toowoomba.
In that series, he made more runs than any batter.
Mueller said he was really looking forward to representing his state again.
‘‘Yes, it’s good to get the call-up and will be a good experience, so I’m really looking forward to it,’’ he said.
Victoria is the defending title holder after winning the series last year.
Mueller pressed his claims for selection with a stellar 2022-23 season when he averaged over 100 for Kyabram Cricket Club in Cricket Shepparton’s strong Haisman Shield competition.
He has followed that form up with 469 runs so far this season in this competition, including one explosive knock of 158 against Euroa, which included 18 fours and six sixes.
He is the only northern Victorian player in the Victorian team and joins a rare club of Kyabram cricketers to have represented the state in the championships.
Kyabram Fire Brigade’s Lawrie Casey and Wayne ‘Doc’ Thomas were in the state team that contested the titles in Canberra in 1986 and Kyabram Cricket Club’s Steve Bubb kept wicket for Victoria in the 1983 carnival in Beenleigh, Queensland.
He was also selected in the all-Australian side from that carnival.
Tongala cricketers Brad Campbell and Jamie Murphy, father of Australian Test spinner Todd Murphy, are other former Kyabram and District Cricket Association players who have represented Victoria in these titles, with Campbell earning all-Australian honours.
