The victorious 10-person squad had half of its members hail from the region, with Echuca’s Jacob Brighton and Kyabram’s Charlie and Henry Boswood, and Joshua and Jacob Cartwright featuring in the team.
The multi-format competition had the five competing states split their 10 bowlers into two contingents of five, with each group facing off against the other states in singles, pairs, triples and fours matches.
The Vic 1 squad, featuring Charlie Boswood and Joshua Cartwright, won six of its eight ties, with Cartwright part of a gold medal-winning fours side.
The Vic 2 squad included Brighton, Jacob Cartwright and Henry Boswood and it picked up wins in five of eight match-ups.
Brighton scored gold in the pairs event and the overall Victorian performance across both squads outclassed the other four states, NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
The strong performances of Brighton and Joshua Cartwright earned them selection in the All-Australian side, while Henry Boswood was the recipient of the Victorian Sportsmanship Award.
Brighton attends Echuca College, while Henry and Charlie Boswood represented St Augustine’s College, Kyabram, and Joshua and Jacob Cartwright are students at Kyabram P-12 College.
Brighton and Charlie Boswood will be two of the five members of the under-18 Victorian side at the National Championships in October.
