The competition, which had been running since June 8 on the Gold Coast, concluded on June 21, with Australian champions crowned in open singles, pairs and fours.
While she wasn’t able to repeat her run to the singles title last year, Cassandra Millerick and fellow Moama player Emma Simmonds gave a good account of themselves in the fours, progressing to the final along with partners Kira Bourke (lead) and Kylie Whitehead (skip).
Simmonds (second) and Millerick’s (third) quartet put in impressive performances throughout the tournament, highlighted by scoring six shots in the final three ends of their semi-final to turn around a 13-11 deficit and progress to the final.
Ultimately the pair fell short with the tournament taken by the team of Louise Cronan (lead), Emma Boyd (second), Leanne Chinery (third) and Kelly McKerihen (skip).
Moama also had some success in the men’s fours, as Kevin Anderson (second) teamed with the Queensland trio of Michael Carroll, Ryan Burnett and Ryan Bester to make a run to the semi-final.
Olivia Cartwright was the strongest local competitor in the women’s singles and pairs, progressing to the quarter-finals in the singles and advancing to the last four in the pairs, alongside partner Laura Butler.
On the men’s side, Anderson and partner Michael Carroll advanced to the round of 32 as the best of the local hopes. Matt Robertson and Peter Campbell made the furthest runs in the singles, falling in the round of 64.
In the under-18 boys’ singles, Jacob Cartwright progressed through the sectional stage but was eliminated in the round of 16.
