The Magpies were simply too good for the Lions, pulling away to claim a 55-37 win that all but secures their finals status.
After their win over a Mulwala side that is directly below them on the ladder, the Pies sit in fifth spot, four games clear of seventh-placed Congupna with five rounds to go.
Magpies coach Lisa Drysdale said it wasn’t her side’s best performance, but she was glad to get the four points on the board.
“It was a steady game. It wasn’t our best game coming off an amazing performance in Deniliquin the week before, but we got the job done,” Drysdale said.
“We pulled away in the second quarter as we got some more consistency with each other after reshuffling our starting line-up.
“Mulwala are certainly a good team - they are nearly there, they just need a bit more to take that next step.”
With a raft of changes to their line-up and some different names in the A-grade team, it was some some familiar faces who stood up for the Pies.
“Steph Watson stood up and played a very consistent game, she shot beautifully for the day,” Drysdale said.
“Jodie Lake was also very consistent and strong in defence, they were our best players for the day.”
For Mulwala, the defeat means its top six status could be under threat as the season enters its final stretch.
The Lions (6-7) are just now one win ahead of Congupna (5-8) with the two sides set to meet in the last round of the season, a clash that could decide their finals fate.
