Entering the bye with just one win, the Magpies were in desperate need of a victory to kick-start their season. They delivered that on Saturday, according to coach Jodie Lake.
“They did really well to come away with the win 52-17,” she said of her players’ efforts.
“It was a bit of a slow start, but after half-time they got cracking and produced some really good passages of play.”
The 35-goal win was a result of a strong team showing across every third, however Lake praised the efforts of two players in particular.
“Charlotte Sheldon was best-on for her tireless efforts all over the court,” she said.
“And young gun Eden Drennan stepped up and proved she is A-grade worthy, having a great day out in goals.”
The Magpies improve to a 2-2 record with a game in hand, having had the bye in round four, and move into sixth place on the ladder after round five.
They will go on the road next week hoping to defeat reigning premier Deniliquin, although it will be a tall order, as the Rams are yet to be defeated this season.
Elsewhere across A-grade, Mulwala defeated Nathalia 53-33, Numurkah was no match for Congupna, going down 29-39, while Tongala continued its unbeaten start to the season, edging out Rumbalara 48-45.
Deniliquin comfortably accounted for Tocumwal, winning 59-36, while Echuca United notched its second win, beating Cobram 53-19.
