In a rematch of last year’s final, Victoria batted first, compiling a total of 195 in 95.5 overs, with much of the top order being dismissed cheaply.
Despite recording his highest first class total of 41 with the bat for Australia just a few weeks ago in Ahmedabad against India, Murphy was unable to rescue the Victorian innings, falling for a 10-ball duck.
On a traditional WACA deck offering plenty for the fast men, Murphy struggled to make an impact with the ball in Western Australia’s first innings, posting figures of 0-37 off just 10 overs as the defending champion raced to a 120-run first-innings lead.
Murphy’s biggest impact came in the second Victorian innings, as he combined with Will Sutherland (83) to provide a counter-punch as the top order failed again, making a handy 26 as the duo put on a 60-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
Western Australia comfortably chased the runs required as Murphy finished wicketless, bowling just three overs on the final day.
The win saw Western Australia complete an unprecedented defence of the T20, one-day and Sheffield Shield domestic titles, having also won all three competitions last season.
Murphy will now head to England to play with county side Durham as he bids for selection in the World Test Championship Final side to face India at The Oval from June 7-12, as well as the Ashes squad to play England, starting at Edgbaston on June 16.
