And winning Saturday's clash against Shepparton United meant more than just winning another game of football for Echuca.
It meant claiming the Kevin Kenna game, named in honour of the Echuca and Shepparton United legend.
Echuca co-coach Simon Maddox said it was a point of pride for the club to get the win.
“We spoke a lot about it in the lead-up,” he said.
“Kevin was a life member of our club, an incredibly important figure, and he still has a strong family connection to Echuca, so we went in desperate to honour him and get the win.”
And from the outset of the game, Echuca always looked likely to get the win, in the end claiming victory by 59 points.
“It was good to get a win like that,” he said.
“At times it was hard to score, they clogged us up and made things difficult, so that's something we can learn from going forward.
“I don't think we played our best football, but it was a workman-like performance.”
The Bombers would boot seven goals in the final quarter to push the margin out to close to 10 goals, with eight individual goal kickers.
One of those was young gun Jack Evans, who slotted two less than 24 hours before making his VFL debut for Essendon.
Maddox said the club was excited to have Evans on the park whenever available.
“Jack is obviously a great young talent,” he said.
“We don't know how much of him we are going to see this year with Pioneers duties and Essendon VFL, but we will take him whenever we can.
“If that's 10 games or two, we are always excited to have him in the line-up. He showed yesterday what he's capable of adding to our side when he is there.”
