A Barooga local has swung high at a prestigious open-age golf competition in Melbourne’s sandbelt.
Casey Chandler, 15, competed in the annual Grand Championships at the Commonwealth Golf Club in the Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh South.
After defeating the competition’s number one seed on Sunday, November 17, Casey found herself destined for a 36-hole grand final clash with the competition’s second seed, Olive Spitty, 15.
On Sunday, November 24, Casey quickly established a strong lead despite rainy conditions with a four-up advantage through the first nine holes, before ending two up after the first 18 holes.
But despite a strong performance from Casey, Olive proved too strong as the clash wore on and went on to claim victory on the 34th hole.
Casey lost to Olive three and two.
Casey’s golfing career is surging onwards and upwards, with her next event the Victorian Junior Masters at the Churchill-Waverley Golf Club this weekend.
