As numbers begin to dwindle late in the season, Kyabram Racing Pigeon Club continues to test its limits, with an almost 700km race from Bourke the latest event.
The Dick Robb Memorial event, held on Saturday, October 12, saw just four trainers and 20 birds participate, with the flock released alongside Kidman Way, south of Bourke, around 690km from the trainers lofts.
It was more than 12 hours before the first birds completed the return journey, Lancaster’s Jim Arthur’s charges taking the race with a velocity of 849.07 metres per minute.
Echuca’s Rod Clark claimed second place at a velocity of 800.36, whole Joe Cammarata of Lancaster took third at 604.05.
Kyabram’s Phillip King rounded out the field at a velocity of 529.13.
