Jarrod Lyle was a professional golfer from Shepparton that played a number of seasons on the PGA Tour, with his best finishing being tied for fourth place in the 2012 Northern Trust Open.
Lyle battled acute myeloid leukaemia as a teenager and was diagnosed with a recurrence of the disease in March 2012.
He ultimately died in 2018 after ceasing treatment at the age of 36 and since then, golf clubs around Australia have held charity tournaments in his honour.
Throughout his life, Lyle was an advocate of Challenge, an organisation that supports kids with cancer, and upon his passing the organisation wanted to continue his legacy.
Money raised from the Doing it for Jarrod campaign goes directly to Challenge to provide practical support for families, including home help, which is assistance from a professional cleaning service, food and supermarket vouchers and financial and practical assistance.
Rich River Golf Club is once again participating in the Doing it for Jarrod campaign by hosting its annual golf day to raise money for Challenge.
RRGC members and community members are welcome to take part in the event — entry is $20, with $8 of that fee going directly to Challenge.
The club has also bought Challenge merchandise to sell on the day, with all the proceeds from those sales also going directly to the organisation.
Golfers will get to play off special yellow tees and are encouraged to wear yellow clothing to show their support.
Rich River Golf Club associate professional Jayden Dixon highlighted the club’s excitement about the event and the legacy Lyle left.
“He (Jarrod) is a huge name in golf, a lot of our members knew him and had played against him before, so it is a huge event for us, and we are happy to put it on every year,” he said.
“All of our members wear yellow on the day, which is a bright colour that is great to see around the course.
“We are projecting to have around 150 players on the day, which will be good and is a nice number.
“Our members look forward to this every year, they all get behind it, so it is really exciting.”
