Whether you want to get into triathlons or are an expert, the Echuca Moama Triathalon Club is gearing up for another exciting season with major events and weekly meets.

Naturally, summer is a busy time for the club, which hosts its Splash and Dash season from October to March with weekly mini triathlons every Wednesday.
Splash and Dash has junior and senior categories. It generally involves a 150m swim, a 10km bike ride and a 2.5km run, which is significantly shorter than a regular triathlon.
This is to allow members to train and beginners to try out the format and basics in a safe environment and to make it easy for people who have never attempted it.
Anyone from the community is welcome to come on a Wednesday and try it out and get a taste of what triathlon is all about.
Echuca Moama Triathlon Club president Sarah Mulkearns emphasised that the club welcomes every level of athlete and that despite being an individual sport, it is community-focused first.
“The first step is to reach out to your local club; our club is very open to introducing new people to the sport and showing them the ropes,” she said.
“You don’t need any fancy equipment as long as you have a pair of runners and any bike you can dust off and bring down, as well as some goggles for the swim, and we can show you the basics of triathlon.
“It is a lot of fun even though it is an individual sport. It is community-based; getting involved means that you can challenge yourself, and it is really exciting for us to welcome new members.”

The club is also hosting major community events, including the 25th edition of the Sweat vs Steam run on Sunday, October 6, and its Multi-sport Weekend over two days on Saturday, January 18, and Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Mulkearns highlighted the club’s excitement for its flagship events throughout the season, particularly on the back of the success of the events last year.
“Last year, we had our 25-year celebration, and it was a sell-out event, so we are looking forward to it being another big one this season,” she said.
“We just do our Sweat vs Steam event, which is a community fundraising run event that we hold here. Last year, we raised $16,000 that went back into other local clubs and community groups, which is fantastic.
“We also have our Multi-sport Weekend in the heart of Echuca, which is our biggest fundraiser for the club. It’s great to give back to our members and community.”
