L-G got off to a slow start in the first quarter, unable to kick any maximums but securing four behinds while the Saints kicked a pair of goals and a lone behind to take a nine-point lead.
The Bombers’ fortunes changed in the second quarter. They kicked one goal and one behind while keeping Heathcote scoreless, bringing them within two at half-time.
L-G continued its strong stretch into the third term, bagging a pair of goals and a behind. Heathcote was still struggling, only managing to kick a goal and two behinds, which gave the Bombers the lead by three heading into the final quarter.
Unfortunately, L-G couldn’t sustain its form, petering out in the fourth term, unable to kick a goal and only nabbing two behinds, while the Saints came home strong with a pair of goals and a lone behind.
Ultimately, the Saints ripped the game away from the Bombers in the fourth quarter, with the final score being Heathcote 5.4 (34) and L-G 3.8 (26).
James Brereton, Blake Dye, Clay McGregor, Lachlan Sverns, Hoby Bussey and Brady Hore were named in L-G’s best for the match.
L-G remains in fourth place behind Heathcote, but it currently has the same amount of competition points (32), yet the Bombers have a game in hand.
L-G will travel to face competition leaders White Hills next week. It will then play Huntly and Mount Pleasant in rounds 17 and 18, respectively, to finish off the season.
HDNL
Leitchville-Gunbower A-grade has walked away with a 10-point win over fifth-placed Heathcote in round 15.
The Bombers edged out the Saints with a final score of 33-23.
L-G is secure in fourth place on the ladder, and Heathcote will be unable to catch it for the remainder of the season.
The Bombers will return home to face White Hills, who has lost only one game this season, next week before playing Huntly and Mount Pleasant in the final two rounds of the season.
