With Term 4 having begun, a staggered return to the school grounds has seen Prep to Year 2 students back for a full two weeks, while Years 3 and 4 finally returned for two days of in-person learning on Tuesday and Wednesday of week two.
Years 5 and 6 were also back in the classroom on Thursday and Friday of that week, with one of those days dedicated to specialist subjects, such as science and physical education.
PE co-ordinator Ben Holmfield said it was “so good” to have students back at school this term, with the plan to pack as much sport and fun activities into the next few months as possible.
“We are just trying to make it as normal as it can be,” he said.
“We want to give them as much opportunities as we can, particularly with the sporting stuff.
“We are well aware over the last two years they have missed out on a lot of their interschool sport.
“They are getting things cancelled on them all the time, so we are trying to give them as much outdoor fun as we can.”
And while students were given little things to do throughout home learning, Holmfield said it could not replace “the real stuff”.
Echuca East Primary School plans to hold a number of small house tournaments and athletics days in the coming weeks for each of the different grade levels, in line with restrictions.
Riverine Herald photographer Steve Huntley headed to Echuca East Primary School on Thursday, October 14, to capture the start of the years 5 and 6’s four-week cricket program.
