Only two teams would progress in A and B-grade, three remaining in contention in A-grade and all four still alive in B-grade going into the final fixtures.
Dragons had a chance to overthrow The Dukes in second spot, should they get the win over presumptive minor premier Hello Kitty.
The last time the two sides met Hello Kitty won all five rubbers, but it was a different story this time around with four of the five matches going the full distance.
Kevin Mao got points on the board for Dragons with a 3-2 win over Stephen Hope, but it was Hope and Jen Fang who were able to come from 3-2 down to win the best-of-seven doubles 4-3.
Another split occurred in the final two singles, which both went to five games, resulting in a 3-2 win for Hello Kitty.
In the other game, already eliminated Peralandra was looking to finish the year on a high against The Dukes, who were looking nervously over their shoulder at the possibility of a Dragons win.
The absence of the undefeated Div Mallya was a big loss for The Dukes, who had to make use of substitutes from the other game.
Peralandra finally found the form that had been evading them all season, taking all but one of the rubbers in a 4-1 victory, pushing them past Dragons into third position.
In B-grade, Double P continued the domination it had enjoyed all season, logging a 4-1 win over JD, ending its opponent’s hopes of featuring in the final.
Pete Retallick and substitute Chris Hawking put together a strong team performance, although JD fought well in the 4-1 defeat.
JD’s Daniel Mackrell and Jolene Doller pushed the minor premier to seven games in the doubles, coming up just short.
JD remained in contention to be finalists, had DanDan taken its match with Tornado, but it wasn’t to be, Tornado claiming victory and a spot in the decider 4-1.
Troy Mackrell and Rob Russell were clinical with their season on the line, taking the doubles 4-1 and achieving an impressive 15-6 margin on games.
In C-grade, the final placings were up in the air going in, with a catch-up fixture still to be played alongside the regular rounds action.
Flaming Monkeys and Petite Princesses jumped straight into their make-up game, The Monkeys grabbing the win 4-1.
An anticipated face-off between the two undefeated singles players in the grade, Isaac Hope and Ryan Smith, went the way of Flaming Monkeys, Hope getting the win in a somewhat surprising 3-0 result.
Hope and Brayden Pike were also dominant in the doubles, taking it 4-0 to put themselves in a strong finals position.
Flaming Monkeys rolled straight into a tight matchup with Rockabilly.
The match went down to the wire, a couple of crucial rubbers going Rockabilly’s way 3-2, but it was Flaming Monkeys who picked up its second victory of the night.
Petite Princesses were in danger of losing a finals place as they went into a second game against Mad Dogs.
Mad Dogs had been one of the teams to beat all year and that continued to prove true this week as they grabbed the win 3-2.
A vital doubles went Mad Dogs’ way 4-1, handing them victory as the sides split the singles rubbers.
Princesses dropping two games in the night would prove the death blow for their season as they fell into fifth place after other results.
Cuddly Kittens needed a win to secure finals and Nathan Mackrell and Andrea Barry delivered 3-2 over Dyl and Friends.
Brady Cronin picked up a pair of singles wins, but Cuddly Kittens were able to do enough in the remaining matches to get the victory.
Two C-grade semi-finals and the final will all be played on finals night.
The Echuca Table Tennis Association grand finals are Wednesday from 7pm at the Moama Sporting Complex.
